Crohns And Colitis UK #WalkIt #Plymouth

My alarm screamed at me at 5AM today, it’s been a long time since I’ve crawled out of bed that early! But today was the first of Crohns And Colitis UK series of #WalkIt events, and what an amazing day it was going to be!

Spirits were high despite the damp weather and the support was there so a good day was guaranteed.

The team from Crohns And Colitis UK did an awesome job of organising things, the volunteers were fantastic helping, cheering and supporting both those walking and anyone in the event village. The event village- Crohns And Colitis UK did a cracking job, face tattoos (temporary ones), face painting, beat the bowel and even an inflatable bowel-

It looked in better condition than mine was before a friendly surgeon whipped it out. The atmosphere was positive there was a buzz and you could tell people wanted to get going.

20170506_102840We had the Lord Mayor of Plymouth (Councillor Pauline Murphy) cut the ribbon and start the walk. It wasn’t long before the first 5k’ers crossed the line at 37 minutes, a fantastic effort! The brave walkers steadily poured in, furry companions too, some carried, some in blankets but most walking. The first 10k’ers crossed the line in 1hr 15m, another sterling effort, they stormed across the line! Despite the wind and the rain the supporters and volunteers cheered them along.

It is easy to get involved, with an estimated 4,500 walkers taking part over the 8 national #WalkIT events and raising £83,000 to date you can easily register for your nearest walk or if you fancy being one of the amazing volunteers and helping out then register here, I’m hoping to make the Bristol event, fingers crossed.

Oh, and if you are worried about the toilet facilities…

Take your pick, there is plenty to go around.

Help make a difference, #GetOutdoors and #WalkIT.
